News you can trust

The members of Holland Zeeland Indivisible have compared notes on where they find trustworthy local, state, and federal news.

Local News Sources

Ottawa News Network, led by Executive Editor Sarah Leach, was the most recommended for local news. Ottawa News Network publishes digitally, and you can receive articles by email by subscribing at their site. Subscribing is free; donations to this nonprofit newsroom are welcome.

The Holland Sentinel ranked second. For television journalism, WOOD, FOX17, WZZM, WGVU, and WWMT were mentioned.

News at the Statewide Level

NPR ranked at the top for sources of Michigan news; Michigan Radio’s Stateside offers in-depth reporting that supplements the regular reporting. Bridge Michigan is listed next; it is a nonpartisan, nonprofit digital publication.

Reporting on National Developments

The three most-recommended sources are the New York Times, Heather Cox Richardson, and NPR. Heather Cox Richardson is a history professor and author who’s published daily essays on current events (with historical perspective) since late 2019. Available on Substack and as a podcast, the essays are available free–although paid subscriptions are offered to support the work.

Indivisible members offered many more resources, including podcasts and Facebook groups, which we’ll share in future posts.
