It is important to vote in every election.
In this year’s Midterm Election it is critical to vote.
What if you could make your vote count even more?
There’s a way. It’s simple, it’s effective, and it costs only your time.
Based on behavioral science, an organization called Vote Tripling hired people in 2020 to stand outside polling places in 10 cities and ask people who had just voted if they would call or text three friends or family members to remind them to vote. This method was shown to be much more effective than canvassing, and most people asked were willing to make the texts or phone calls. Unlike phone calls from unknown numbers, a text or phone call from a friend is less likely to be ignored.
Vote Tripling doesn’t have to be limited to polling places.
This is where you come in.
When you’ve voted, will you contact three friends or family members and remind them to vote? With the many threats of voter intimidation, your call or text may be the thing that makes your contacts decide to vote. If you vote in person, consider mentioning how easy it was; give reassurance that there is no danger at the polling place. Or note how you returned your absentee ballot and ask how they plan to return theirs.
And just imagine the possibilities if you follow up with those contacts and ask if they could contact three friends or family after they vote…!
Note : Polling Place Vote Tripling is covered in the recently published book, This Is The Plan by Ben Wikler (former Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin). You’ll find a lot of other interesting ideas in this book; it’s highly recommended. Find or order a copy at a locally owned independent book store. It is also available as an audiobook on Hoopla through your local library.
